Some classes are run year-round, but classes are usually divided into semesters, lasting through the first semester (April - September) or the second semester (October - March). Students normally enroll in April, but some universities permit students to enter at a different time, such as in October. There are usually three long vacations at Japanese institutions of higher education during the academic year: the summer break (late July - late August), winter break (late December - early January) and spring break (late February - early April).Qualifications for admission

Undergraduate Level:A student who has completed his or her secondary education (include high school) and school education for 12 years or more outside of Japan will qualify for admission to a Japanese university. A student educated in a country where primary and secondary education (include high school) lasts for less than 12 years will become qualified for admission if he or she completes a college preparatory course designated by the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and if the student is over 18 years old. Those who have qualifications such as an International Baccalaureate or Abitur and are aged at least 18 years are also qualified for admission to a Japanese university.

Graduate Schools:A student who has completed prescribed courses at an institute of higher education outside of Japan will qualify for admission to a Japanese graduate school if the student has completed 16 years of school education (18 years for those enrolling in doctor's programs in medicine, dentistry or veterinary science). Those who are recognized as having academic ability equal to or above that of a college graduate and are at least 22 years in age (24 years in the case of doctor's programs in medicine, dentistry or veterinary science) also qualify for admission to a graduate school.

Institute Entrance Procedure

visit: http://study-japan.info

PROCEDURE FOR ENTRANCE TO JAPAN

PROCEDURE FOR ENTRANCE TO JAPAN

1. For this purpose, it is recommended that you consult with your guarantorSince rental apartments are usually unfurnished, you will have to purchase or lease your own necessary furniture.(1)Renting accommondationTo find accommodation after arriving in Japan, foreigners usually go to a real estate agent. If there is a suitable dwelling, you ask the agent to mediate. In this case, since it is difficult for foreigners to follow the special commercial customs of Japan, you are recommended to take along a person who is familiar with the details, such as your guarantor.Estimated rentsThere is a large difference in rents between large citis and provincial cities. In addition, even in large cities rents differ according to such factors as distance from the center and size of accommodation. As a guideline, the rent for an apartment with a simple kitchenette (about 10 sq. meters in total), situated about 30 minutes by train from the city center, would be around \50,000- \60,000 in a large city and around \40,000 in a provincial city. The rent for an apartment consisting of one room with a kitchen and toilet (about 20 sq. meters in total) would be about double these figures. When renting an apartment, you must pay various fees, such as a deposit and key money. The expence differs according to region and apartment, but in general, as a rough estimate, you should think in terms of needing the equivalent of six or seven months' rent in the first month.<br Even though 60 % of all universities have graduate schools, only 7 % of university graduates advance to master's programs, and total graduate school enrollment is about 4 % of the entire university student population.
The pattern of graduate enrollment is almost the opposite of that of undergraduates: the majority (63 %) of all graduate students are enrolled in the national universities, and it appears that the disparity between public and private graduate enrollments is widening. Graduate education is largely a male preserve, and women, particularly at the master's level, are most heavily represented in the humanities, social sciences, and education. Men are frequently found in engineering programs where, at the master's level, women comprise only 2 % of the students. At the doctoral level, the two highest levels of female enrollment are found in medical programs and the humanities, where in both fields 30 % of doctoral students are women. Women account for about 13 % of all doctoral enrollments.
The generally small numbers of graduate students and the graduate enrollment profile results from a number of factors, especially the traditional employment pattern of industry. The private sector frequently prefer to hire and train new university graduates, allowing them to develop their research skills within the corporate structure. Thus, the demand for students with advanced degrees is low.
Qualifications for admission :
Graduate Schools:A student who has completed prescribed courses at an institute of higher education outside of Japan will qualify for admission to a Japanese graduate school if the student has completed 16 years of school education (18 years for those enrolling in doctor's programs in medicine, dentistry or veterinary science). Those who are recognized as having academic ability equal to or above that of a college graduate and are at least 22 years in age (24 years in the case of doctor's programs in medicine, dentistry or veterinary science) also qualify for admission to a graduate school.

List of Japanese Universities

for details visit: http://study-japan.info/graduate_programs_japan.html

Japanese Language Programs

Japanese Language Programs

Japanese is a language spoken by over 130 million people, in Japan and in Japanese emigrant communities around the world. It is an agglutinative language and is distinguished by a complex system of honorifics reflecting the hierarchical nature of Japanese society, with verb forms and particular vocabulary to indicate the relative status of speaker, listener and the person mentioned in conversation. The sound inventory of Japanese is relatively small, and has a lexically distinct pitch-accent system. Early Japanese is known largely on the basis of its state in the 8th century, when the three major works of Old Japanese were compiled; but smaller amounts of material, primarily inscriptional, are older. The earliest attestation of Japanese is in a Chinese document from 252 A.D.The languages spoken by the native peoples of the insular country of Japan at present and during recorded history belong to either of two primary phyla of human language:Japonic languages Ainu languages In addition to these two indigenous language families, there are significant minorities of ethnic Koreans and Chinese in modern Japan, who respectively constitute approximately 0.5% and 0.4% of the country's population and many of whom continue to speak their respective ethnic language in private contexts. There is also a notable history of use of Classical Chinese as a language of literature and diplomacy in Japan, similar to the status of the Latin language in medieval Europe, which has left an indelible mark on the vocabulary of the Japanese language. Classical Chinese continues to be a mandatory subject in the curricula of most Japanese secondary schools even today.
details here: http://study-japan.info/Japanese_Language_Programs.html

High School in Japan

High School in Japan

Education is an important issue in Japanese society. These are the three ways that a young Japanese child is educated in Japan: by attending a public school for a compulsory education, by attending a private school for a compulsory education, or by attending a private school that does not adhere to standards set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).While high school ("upper secondary education") is not compulsory, more than 90% of the population attends high school. There are, however, many high schools which are not strictly academic, including agricultural and technical high schools. More than 2.5 million students advance to universities and colleges. In the past, the selection process for advancing to higher education had been described as "hellish" and "war-like". But with the number of Japanese children being born declining, the tide has turned the other way. Now schools are having to compete amongst themselves to gather students. However, many children continue to be sent to Juku (cram schools) in addition to state schools.
visit for details: http://study-japan.info/high_school_japan.html

Academic Year in Japan

Academic Year in Japan

The academic year at a Japanese school normally begins in April and ends the following March. Some classes are run year-round, but classes are usually divided into semesters, lasting through the first semester (April - September) or the second semester (October - March). Students normally enroll in April, but some universities permit students to enter at a different time, such as in October. There are usually three long vacations at Japanese institutions of higher education during the academic year: the summer break (late July - late August), winter break (late December - early January) and spring break (late February - early April).Qualifications for admission Undergraduate Level:A student who has completed his or her secondary education (include high school) and school education for 12 years or more outside of Japan will qualify for admission to a Japanese university. A student educated in a country where primary and secondary education (include high school) lasts for less than 12 years will become qualified for admission if he or she completes a college preparatory course designated by the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and if the student is over 18 years old. Those who have qualifications such as an International Baccalaureate or Abitur and are aged at least 18 years are also qualified for admission to a Japanese university.Graduate Schools:A student who has completed prescribed courses at an institute of higher education outside of Japan will qualify for admission to a Japanese graduate school if the student has completed 16 years of school education (18 years for those enrolling in doctor's programs in medicine, dentistry or veterinary science). Those who are recognized as having academic ability equal to or above that of a college graduate and are at least 22 years in age (24 years in the case of doctor's programs in medicine, dentistry or veterinary science) also qualify for admission to a graduate school.

Institute Entrance Procedure

visit: http://study-japan.info/academic_year_japan.html

About Japan

About Japan

Japan is an island country in East Asia. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it lies to the east of China, Korea and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the south. The characters that make up Japan's name mean "sun-origin", which is why Japan is sometimes identified as the "Land of the Rising Sun".Japan comprises over three thousand islands, the largest of which are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku, together accounting for 97% of land area. Most of the islands are mountainous, many volcanic; for example, Japan’s highest peak, Mount Fuji, is a volcano. Japan has the world's tenth largest population, with about 128 million people. The Greater Tokyo Area, which includes the capital city of Tokyo and several surrounding prefectures, is the largest metropolitan area in the world, with over 30 million residents.Geography and climate:Japan is a country of over three thousand islands extending along the Pacific coast of Asia. The main islands, running from north to south, are Hokkaido, Honshu (the main island), Shikoku and Kyushu. The Ryukyu Islands, including Okinawa, are a chain of islands south of Kyushu. Together they are often known as the Japanese Archipelago.About 70% to 80% of the country is forested, mountainous, and unsuitable for agricultural, industrial, or residential use. This is because of the generally steep elevations, climate and risk of landslides caused by earthquakes, soft ground and heavy rain. This has resulted in an extremely high population density in the habitable zones that are mainly located in coastal areas. Japan is the thirtieth most densely populated country in the world.

EconomyClose government-industry cooperation, a strong work ethic, mastery of high technology, and a comparatively small defense allocation have helped Japan become the second largest economy in the world, after the United States, at around US$4.5 trillion in terms of nominal GDP and third after the United States and China in terms of purchasing power parity.Japan is home to the world's largest bank, the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, which has roughly US$1.7 trillion in assets; the world's largest postal savings system; and the largest holder of personal savings, Japan Post, holding personal savings valued at around US$3.3 trillion. It is home to the world's second largest stock exchange, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with a market capitalization of over 549.7 trillion Yen as of December 2006. It is also home to some of the largest financial services companies, business groups and banks. For instance several large keiretsus (business groups) and multinational companies such as Sony, Sumitomo, Mitsubishi and Toyota own billion- and trillion-dollar operating banks, investment groups and/or financial services such as Sumitomo Bank, Fuji Bank, Mitsubishi Bank, Toyota Financial Services and Sony Financial Holdings.Science and technologyJapan is a leading nation in the fields of scientific research, technology, machinery and medical research. Nearly 700,000 researchers share a US$130 billion research and development budget, the third largest in the world. Some of Japan's more important technological contributions are found in the fields of electronics, automobiles, machinery, industrial robotics, optics, chemicals, semiconductors and metals. Japan leads the world in robotics, possessing more than half (402,200 of 742,500) of the world's industrial robots used for manufacturing. It also produced QRIO, ASIMO and Aibo. Japan is the world's largest producer of automobiles and home to six of the world's fifteen largest automobile manufacturers and seven of the world's twenty largest semiconductor sales leaders.Culture and recreationJapanese culture has evolved greatly over the years, from the country's original Jomon culture to its contemporary culture, which combines influences from Asia, Europe and North America. Traditional Japanese arts include crafts (ikebana, origami, ukiyo-e, dolls, lacquerware, pottery), performances (bunraku, dance, kabuki, noh, rakugo), traditions (games, tea ceremony, budo, architecture, gardens, swords) and cuisine. The fusion of traditional woodblock printing and Western art led to the creation of manga, a typically Japanese comic book format that is now popular within and outside Japan. Manga-influenced animation for television and film is called anime. Japanese-made video game consoles have prospered since the 1980s. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org

visit: http://study-japan.info
